Design & Usability

You can tell Duelz has been designed with more passion and attention than 99% of other online casino platforms straightaway. I loved the luscious rolling fields in the background, complete with bunnies running across. All the menus and game categories are also translucent, making sure the backdrop is constantly visible.

A triumphant Medieval soundtrack and various other sound effects also help to create an immersive atmosphere. I was really impressed by the overall design, which puts Duelz very much in its own league. I can see why the operator won the 2018 EGR Marketing and Innovation Award – no other platform can compare to its unique approach.

And it doesn’t just nail the fun aesthetic – Duelz is practical too. The games homepage is split into several categories, including options like “Slots”, “Live Roulette”, “Cash Blast”, “Megaways”, and more. I appreciated the different sections, especially with over 1,000 games in the catalogue.

However, the operator isn’t perfect. One of my main design drawbacks was the lack of search filters. I don’t always require in-depth filters at platforms like Paddy Power (allowing you to find specific volatility slots, for example), but it would be nice to at least be able to sort games by developer. At the time of writing, Authentic Gaming was the only software provider with its own category, so this is somewhere Duelz can improve.

Games

Before I get into a summary of the cracking Duelz casino game selection, I need to expand on the casino’s duels concept. This is great fun, and it’s far more than the races or tournaments at other platforms that essentially just reward those prepared to spend the most on stakes.

At Duelz, you compete against players in 1v1 slot battles and can also use various spells to help. It reminded me of the old Pokemon Game Boy games, with things like a protective shield reducing the damage that can be inflicted or energy boosts just before your points run out. I can’t overstate how fun and unique this is – I almost became more interested in securing new spells from the treasure chest bonuses than actual casino offers! And the more times you beat your opponents, the higher your score level and better your potential bonuses.

This gameplay concept alone is enough to secure new casino players, but the Duelz casino catalogue is also seriously impressive. The operator treats customers to almost 1500 high-grade online slots, including its very own exclusive Duelz 3×1 title. Duelz also has highly impressive withdrawal times, but its claims didn’t always match up. For example, the operator claims all withdrawals made via Trustly, bank transfer, Paysafecard, Skrill, and Neteller will be instant. I know for a fact that bank transfers can take a few days, so this seems misleading. Nevertheless, I did receive my withdrawals relatively quickly using PayPal during testing. Mobile Experience

I was a little worried about how the Duelz website would translate to smaller smartphone screens due to its elaborate design, but I needn’t have stressed. The design team has done a fantastic job making sure the menus and dimensions alter to fit smartphone and tablet screens. I didn’t have any trouble with loading times either, so Duelz is a great option for mobile gambling enthusiasts.

App Review

Duelz currently lacks a mobile app. While this isn’t the end of the world, I did think it’s a missed opportunity considering the exciting duels mechanic, skill points, and spells. A native mobile app would make it easier for players to keep an eye on their profiles and use daily bonuses, especially with push notifications switched on. Still, as I say, it isn’t a game changer – the Duelz HTML5 website holds up well enough to support mobile gameplay.

Summary

I’m a huge fan of Duelz. The casino may not be perfect, but there are more than enough incentives and special features available here. My favourite aspect is the unique duels concept, injecting the classic online casino experience with an interactive and communal edge. It brings a whole new dimension to the gameplay, especially with various spells and skill points helping you defeat opponents.

Other highlights include the diverse payment methods, ongoing promotions, and gaming catalogue. The operator could lower its wagering requirements and design a mobile app if I’m being picky, but it’s top-notch for the most part.
