Undead Fortune features some very satisfying gameplay, with smooth animations that make spinning the reels a real joy. This joy may quickly subside, however, if you don’t have a big budget to play with, as the relatively average RTP rate combined with a high level of volatility may have you waiting some time for any chance of a substantial win. That said, those who persevere could find themselves on the receiving end of some serious jackpots, but don’t lose too much money in the pursuit. As always, you should never chase your losses.

For reference, when playing Undead Fortune’s demo version, our initial budget of £5,000 went all the way down to £1,424 before we won a big payout, which was a big jackpot of £4,860. Had we been playing with real money, however, we would have stopped playing a long time ago. As such, high volatility games such as these – which, for those not in the know, provide wins extremely rarely but they can be big when they come – are best suited for those who can really afford to lose before they win. There are plenty of lower volatility titles that may better suit your fancy.

Undead Fortune’s most exciting bonus features come in the form of Hacksaw’s own innovative Duel mechanics. The Walking Duel symbol reveals a monster – and an accompanying random multiplier worth between x2 and x200 – that fills an entire reel, and then gradually moves left across the reels, boosting wins as it goes.

Then there’s the Expanding Duel symbol, which works in a similar manner, except this wild symbol, after expanding to fill the whole screen, stays put. If the monster is defeated, its random multiplier is applied to potentially generate big wins. If it appears with a Walking Wild, then the two multipliers are added together, and this is where you could see some really huge jackpots.

Additionally, Undead Fortune includes a bonus round that is triggered by three ‘Curse’ symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5. This awards 10 free spins, but the only difference between the Curse bonus round and the base game is that you have a higher chance of encountering Expanding and Walking Duels. You can also purchase a Curse round for 10x your bet, but we wouldn’t recommend this, it’s best to wait and hope that the three Curse symbols appear naturally.

As with most new slot games, Undead Fortune has been made with mobile and tablet users in mind. Having been built with HTML5 technology, it functions equally well across all platforms and operating systems. That said, on the mobile version some of the visual features are missing. The rather imposing snake that oversees proceedings on the desktop version, for example, is missing when you play on mobile. However, this doesn’t detract from the overall performance.

As we’ve come to expect with Hacksaw Gaming titles, Undead Fortune is a stylish designed slot with some pretty frightening graphics – we don’t recommend this game if you’re not good with snakes and ghouls, because here they’re rendered in high definition. Plus, when you trigger a Walking or Expanding Duels, the monsters appear to almost jump out of the screen, taking swipes at the player that leave bloodied marks on the screen. These attacks are like something out of a first-person arcade shooter, which is a nice touch.

If we were to conjure up a criticism, it would be in relation to the sound. The soundtrack, though wholly appropriate to the slot’s theme, is a little uninspiring and can get repetitive after a while. That said, the slot’s other immersive design features are more than enough to keep you invested.
