There is nothing too complicated about Big Bass Splash gameplay, but that’s never a bad thing when it comes to the slots. The game is simple, easy to follow, and plays very smoothly, which makes for an enjoyable gaming experience. The main issue in terms of gameplay is, if you fail to trigger a bonus round for a long period of time, the game can get rather repetitive for seemingly little reward. This is mainly due to the game’s high volatility, which means that payouts are comparatively infrequent, but are generally substantial when they come. The bonus round gives you an initial 10 free spins, and during those spins you’re looking for the bearded fisherman wild symbol, who not only replaces standard symbols to form winning combinations, but he’ll also collect any fish symbols he appears alongside, rewarding their monetary value to the player. If he appears at least four times during this bonus round, you’ll earn 10 extra spins with a multiplier attached. This process can continue until you’ve earned a maximum 40 free spins with a x10 multiplier.

As you can see, the game revolves around this bonus round, which makes for exciting playing when triggered. It’s only a shame that the base game doesn’t hold more opportunity in its own right.

Like all of Pragmatic Play’s new slots, Big Bass Splash has been built using HTML5, which means it’s compatible across desktop, mobile and tablet devices. After trialling the game on both laptop and iPhone X, we can tell you that the game performs perfectly well on both, with all of the same features. Of course, the animations are slightly smoother when played on a computer, but this doesn’t affect the overall speed and performance.

In terms of design, Big Bass Splash doesn’t necessarily deliver any stylistic surprises. The layout will be familiar to experienced slot players, especially to those who have played some of the other Big Bass titles, which featured very similar design elements. As we’ve previously suggested, however, simplicity is often a slot’s greatest virtue, and we like slots that keep things traditional. Plus, like the other games in Pragmatic Play’s Big Bass series, the graphics of this game are near flawless. Watching the reels slide into place is as satisfying as ever, and the nautical theme is beautifully realised with underwater graphics.

We would like to have seen some fresh sound effects and a more exciting soundtrack rolled out for the latest instalment, but this is certainly not something that’s going to detract from the overall user experience.
